At the end of January 1945 the unit formed part of Skorzeny's force for the defensive bridgehead at Schwedt on the Oder; the paratroopers were positioned in the Konigsberg area, operating with SS-Jagdverband Mitte around Grabow. There, on 4 February, its 3. Kompanie was completely overrun by the Soviets, suffering heavy casualties; the survivors took part in efforts to retake the city a few days later, but after some initial progress the battered German formations were once again forced out of Konigsberg.

Based first at Priesterbeck and then at Plon, this unit operated 'Linsen' speedboats, and was responsible for training operators for K-Flotillen 211 to 2 2 0 . The Linsen were known as Sprengboote or 'explosive boats', and about 1,200 were built. 6-litre V8 engine giving them a top speed of around 30 knots. The stern of the boat was packed with up to 480kg (10561b) of explosives, connected to a detonator in the bow. Each attack would be carried out by one command boat and two ramming boats; the pilot would aim the boat at the target and jump overboard at the last safe moment, allowing the boat to be guided into its target by radio control from the command boat.
